TheCUBE
Hired to build a venture. Handed a 14-country study for a €3B company on day one.
01 · Situation
Not the job I interviewed for.
I joined TheCUBE, a corporate venture builder in Madrid, expecting to build a venture. On the first day a 14-country project landed on my desk: the entire e-business strategy, worldwide, for a food group with €3B in annual revenue.
02 · Hardest moment
Fourteen countries, fourteen systems.
Fifteen years of sales data, millions of data points, and every country on its own systems with its own spreadsheets. I had a team of seven, and we were understaffed for the size of it. Ten months went into understanding how each market actually operated.
03 · The move
Two months of strategy. They implemented it.
With the diagnosis done, we built the roadmap in two months, and the client implemented it. In parallel I managed a cross-functional team of 14 specialists in e-commerce, logistics and software, and built AI-in-retail pilots that produced MVPs for two autonomous-store concepts.
04 · Numbers
Scale.
- 14
- countries in one roadmap
- €3B
- client annual revenue
- 14
- specialists managed
- 2
- autonomous-store MVPs
05 · What I'd do differently
Staff for the data, not the slides.
The analysis was the project. I would have fought for data-engineering capacity on day two instead of absorbing it into a strategy team of seven.
